Officials say texting and driving was a factor in a fatal crash early Friday morning.

Emergency responders were called to a report of an accident to U.S. 40 east of the Manhattan road just after 5 a.m.

Reports show a Ford F-150 driven by Darrel Meaden, Jr., 30 of Brazil, was traveling east on U.S. 40 when the truck left the roadway.

The truck then struck an embankment and caused the vehicle to go airborne, roll and then struck a tree.

Meaden was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Officials in Putnam County say one person was killed in a fatal crash on Intestate 70 early Sunday morning.

The crash shut the highway down in both directions for about two and a half hours from State Road 39 in Hendricks County to U.S. 231, which is just north of Cloverdale. All lanes reopened around 5:30 a.m.

Officials say a semi called police to report a car slid off the road and flipped in the median. The driver, who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say roads in the area were extremely slick.
