Amanda Simonson and Kayla Ignatowski were traveling in opposite directions on County Highway 8 just north of Pittsville in Wood County Wednesday morning Ignatowski's vehicle crossed the center line while negotiating a curve, hitting Simonson head-on. Roads were wet and snow-covered at the time of the crash, but weather is not being cited as a factor by authorities. Ignatowski, who was a senior at Pittsville High School, was killed. She was not wearing a seat belt. Simonson was trapped in her car and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Good Samaritans stopped at the scene.

Authorities have identified the 80-year-old Wisconsin Rapids woman killed by a train Sunday afternoon.

Authorities think Joyce Huber was trying to get across the railroad tracks on West Grand Avenue, near Riverview Expressway, before the train got to the intersection, Wisconsin Rapids Police Lt. Joel Flewellen said.

At 3:14 p.m. Sunday, a caller reported the train had hit a woman who had stepped in front of it, according to police reports. A Wood County coroner declared Huber dead at the scene.

A motorcycle driver is dead after colliding with a 4-door car, around 8:22 p.m., Saturday night near Township of Saratoga. The Wood County sheriff's deputies were called to State Highway 73 and County Highway Z south near the Township Saratoga for a car versus motorcycle crash Saturday. Michael Anderson, 29, of Holmen, Wis., was driving east on State Highway 73 when he collided into a vehicle traveling north on County Highway Z. The release said the other driver was 22-year-old Louis DeWayne Walker of Wisconsin Rapids.
