A 43-year-old man disappeared Monday after crashing a vehicle on a Highway 99 offramp, leaving an injured woman in his car, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Investigators are looking for a man they identified as Alfredo Ventura, according to CHP Officer Moises Onsurez.

Ventura was the suspected driver of a black 1998 Ford Explorer heading north about 7:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 99, the CHP said.

One man was killed and another sustained major injuries Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash near Chowchilla, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Officers suspect DUI may have been a factor in the crash. The Madera County coroner’s office has not released the name of the person who was killed, pending notification of his family. The CHP said the victim was in his mid-20s.

Two CHP officers, later identified as Juan Gonzalez, 34, and Brian Law, 33, have died after their car crashed into a pole this morning in Fresno County, according to the CHP. The incident happened at around 6 a.m. on Highway 99 and Bethel Avenue near Kingsburg, confirms CHP spokesman Axel Reyes. The officers were responding to a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 99 at Bethel Avenue when their vehicle hit a pole and flipped, killing them. Authorities estimate the freeway will be closed at least until 1 p.m. today. Kingsburg is a city located 22 miles southeast of Fresno.

It had already been a tough winter in the Central California farm town of Riverdale. The drought had crippled some farms and caused some of the almond trees, long a sign of pride and prosperity, to wither and die.

But no one was prepared for what unfolded Saturday night: A horrific accident that sent an SUV carrying a mother and her four children hurtling in flames toward a nearby house. A man pulling up seconds later, sprinting toward the wreckage to help, burning his hands and arms as five people died in the flames — his people. His wife and his four children.

Passengers were hospitalized after a tour bus traveling from Los Angeles was involved in a crash late Monday night with a truck in the Central Valley. The crash occurred in Tulare about 170 miles north of Los Angeles. The bus, which struck the rear of the truck, was bound for Yakima, Wash. At least 15 people, including the 60-year-old driver, were hospitalized with minor injuries after the crash on northbound State Route 99 , according to the California Highway Patrol. Thirty-six people were aboard the bus, operated by Fronteras Del Norte.

A single-engine aircraft crashed in the front yard of a home in Central California on Thursday, killing two people on board.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says a Cessna 172 plane crashed at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, approximately 800 feet west of a runway at Fresno’s Chandler Airport.

The plane hit a tree before crashing, authorities said, and caught fire on impact. No one on the ground was injured.

A Fresno Fire Department spokesman says the two victims were the adult male pilot and a boy, about 9 years old.

Their names were not released.
