At around 2:25 p.m., a vehicle driven by Justin Ayers that was traveling at an estimated 100 mph struck a white sedan driven by Kathleen Benes. The impact of the crash forced her vehicle across the median where it was struck again by a silver pickup truck, driven by Teresa Schultz. Benes died in the crash, and Schultz was hospitalized with a possible leg fracture. Ayers was arrested about four blocks from the scene of the accident.

Lerosha Vaneese Forrest was driving north on 52nd street at about 5:30pm and was illegally passing cars that were stopped at a red light. She eventually entered the intersection with Farnam Street and was hit in the rear by a westbound car on that road, which sent her car off of the roadway where it collided with a tree. Lerosha was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in her vehicle, Ronnie Forrest, 43, was hospitalized with critical head injuries. Fortunately, neither a 1-year-old girl that was in a car seat in Forrest's vehicle nor the driver of westbound vehicle were harmed.
