According to the MSP, at around 8:54 a.m. in Stearns County a Chrysler 300M came off of I-94 westbound and turned left into the eastbound lane of Highway 23.

A 23-year-old man, Travis J. Mahaffey, was killed when his ATV crashed in rural Sherburne County. The accident happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday on County Road 43 at 176th Street in Big Lake Township. He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale after the crash and died about 4 hours later. Authorities have not given information about the circumstances that led to Mahaffey’s death.

Meshu Lamu was walking to a bus stop on Highway 252 when he was struck by as many as two different vehicles and died of his injuries. Neither vehicle stopped to help him. Witnesses desrcibe the vehicles as being a dark sedan and a red SUV, with damage on their left sides. Police at this point are unsure if both vehicles struck Lamu but want to bring in both drivers for questioning to find out what happened. Lamu had a wife, 6 children, and four grandchildren.

Deputies say 34-year-old Misty Petschl was driving on County Road 10 when she lost control of her Dodge Caravan and slid into oncoming traffic. Her minivan was struck on the driver’s side by a GMC Yukon driven by 59-year-old David Splettstoeszer of Waconia.  Petschl’s 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter were also in the vehicle with her at the time of the collision, and they were all transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where Misty Petschl died around 9 p.m. Saturday. Her daughter, Jazmine, also later died from her injuries. The son, Spencer, remains hospitalized.

The crash was reported about 7:50 a.m. at milepost 7 on US-218 between Austin and Lyle, Minnesota. Richard D. Hurt, 69, of Grand Forks, ND, was driving the semi. The name of the male driver of the car is not available. No word on anyone's condition. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.

A fatal accident happened about 5:50 a.m. Tuesday northwest of Faribault, when a car slid on icy Hwy. 21 into the path of another car heading in the opposite direction. Killed were the driver of the out-of-control car, Abdirahman Abdi, 35, of Noel, Mo., and one of his two passengers, Said I. Abdi, 34, of Kansas City, Mo. Another passenger, Rahma B. Ibrahim, 24, of Schuyler, Neb., was being treated at North Memorial Medical Center for serious injuries. The driver of the other car, Justin T. Francis, 37, of St. Peter, Minn., was not injured. The car from Missouri was heading west on Hwy.
