The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Franklin County were closed for seven hours Thursday morning, according to Chambersburg police. The semi was traveling north when it crossed into incoming traffic, where it glanced another vehicle before overturning on an embankment in Guilford Township. The crash left the driver in serious condition.

A 56-year-old Walnutport man was driving the minivan Wednesday night with which a motorcycle driven by Jorge Lugo Jr., of Teaneck, NJ, collided on Route 145 in North Whitehall Township, killing the rider. Franklin Schlegel was driving west just before 7 p.m. on Second Street; Bernice Schlegel, 73, also of Walnutport, was a passenger in the minivan, police said. Franklin Schlegel and Bernice Schlegel were transported to a hospital for evaluation. The death has been ruled an accident.

The man who was killed in a crash on Interstate 81 in Franklin County earlier Tuesday morning was identified as a Virginia man by state police. Steven Lee Winfrey, 51, of Roanoke, Virginia, was killed when his tractor-trailer veered off the roadway Exit 10 for Route 914 in Guilford Township on northbound I-81 in Franklin County just before 5 a.m. The truck crashed into a cement storm drain and burst into flames, according to previous reports from state police.

A 29-year-old Franklin Township woman on Thursday morning was airlifted by Life Lion following a two-vehicle crash in Carroll Township in York County. Sanya Wagner was driving a red Chevrolet from Range End Road onto Route 15, when she was hit by a silver Chevrolet going south on Route 15, Carroll Township police said in a news release. Police responded to the crash at 7:36 a.m. at the intersection of Route 15 and Golf Course Road. Molly Smith, 43, of York Springs in Adams County, was driving the silver vehicle, police said.

High winds and swirling snow that slashed visibility to nearly zero left the southbound lanes of Interstate 79 littered with wrecked cars and trucks Thursday morning. That series of crashes, which began at about 9:15 a.m. and involved 26 cars and three tractor-trailers, prompted Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Department of transportation to close Interstate 79 between the McKean and Edinboro exits until about 12:15 p.m. There were no reports, however, of any serious injuries. Five people were treated at UPMC Hamot, but none of them was admitted.

Washington Township police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal accident that happened just before 10 a.m. Sunday.

Police say a white 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer was heading south in the 3800 block of Marsh Road in Waynesboro and failed to negotiate a right turn.

The vehicle left the south side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to police.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Carlisle man was killed Wednesday morning in Franklin Township when a pickup truck hit him while he was standing on the side of the road, the York County Deputy coroner said. Connor Scott Waterfield, 21, of Shugart Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on Twin Hills Road near May Drive. The incident has been ruled accidental, Cosey said.

A 2-year-old girl died in a traffic accident Thursday evening in Franklin County after the vehicle she was riding in was hit by another vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign, state police said. Investigators said the girl, who was not identified, was restrained in her car seat, but the car seat was not properly affixed to the car. The accident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. along the Wingerton Road, near the intersection with State Line Road in Antrim Township, police said.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 81, between exit 24 in Southampton Township and exit 20 in Greene Township, have reopened following an accident that claimed two lives and injured five at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, according to police and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. A northbound vehicle crossed the median and struck a second vehicle traveling south, police said. The second vehicle was pushed into another southbound vehicle at mile marker 21.5, near exit 20 in Greene Township.

In Franklin County, police say a man was killed in an accident after sliding on a road Friday. Police say Donald Funkhouser of Waynesboro was driving on Anthony Highway in Washington Township when he slid on the road, hit two utility poles and flipped over. Funkhouser died at the scene. A passenger was taken to the hospital.
