A car crashed through a health food store at a strip mall on University Boulevard South on Friday morning.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue transported a man and woman who were inside the store to a nearby hospital, but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known. The store manager said the injuries weren't serious, but the customers were mostly in shock.

Police said an older woman accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, driving through Southern Nutrition Center, near Barnhill Drive.

"She ran right through the building -- fast," a witness who owns a barber shop next door, said of the driver. "I actually saw her pulling in. She hit the brakes momentarily. (I) put my head down, heard the crash, looked up and she was inside the building."

The damage estimate was not immediately known.
