Two people died Sunday afternoon in a fatal crash on U.S. Route 22 in Fairfield County. Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on U.S. 22 east of state Route 159 just outside Lancaster at about 2:40 p.m. Sunday. According to officers, a man, identified as Robert Kaelbli, 77, was driving a silver Toyota Camry, westbound on U.S. 22, crossed the center line and collided with a black Honda Civic with two female occupants that was headed eastbound. The man driving the silver Camry was transported by Medflight to Grant Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. One female, identified as Christeni A. Downs, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another female, identified as Tamara N. Holcomb, 23, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Deputies said all parties involved in the crash were wearing their seatbelts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The crash is still under investigation.
