Dads winning at childcare (VIDEO)

Dads are the constant butt of jokes in pop culture when it comes to matters of childcare and domesticity. They can’t do anything right. Ads and sitcoms show men as irresponsible idiots: dads gut fish on the counter, and only a patient woman knows how to clean it up. Dads are regarded as heroes when they bring pizza home for dinner, and this is because we all know he’ll just burn the house down if he attempts to turn on the oven. These ads portraying the father of a household as a giant, simple manchild are awful not only because they aren’t true, but because it means that women are the only ones who can make sure that the house is clean and that kids are safe. They show that if you give men a chance, they’ll only screw it up. Women just need to pick up the safety slack. Seeing these portrayals every day means that people start to think these stereotypes are true, and that men shouldn’t even bother trying. I know a man who told me that he never held either of his children until they were three months old because he was “too afraid to hurt them when they’re that tiny.” MUST HAVE BEEN A NICE THREE-MONTH VACATION. Good thing childbirth isn’t hard, ladies! I have been at the playground with my husband and child, and when my daughter trips (because she is a toddler—a species known for their grace), random people will say, “Looks like Dad is in charge!” or “Classic Dad move!” even though we are both there. It’s just a given that if a father is present, bad things are going to happen. Excuse me, but in my household, my husband and I are equally capable of letting our daughter fall on her face. That’s why I love this video, which features men actually succeeding at caring for their children (you know, as they do in real life all the time). As a bonus, they are caring in hilarious ways. Here we see that a “Classic Dad move” isn’t letting the kid trip, but catching them before they fall.

My son Jarod is a fabulous father figure. He cleans and loves to cook. He has a ready made family with an 8 year old male and a 5 year old female, and one of his own due soon. I have seen him with other people's children in a professional sense, He was a Karate teacher, and I have seen him in a personal setting. He loves kids and is a great dad! He adores babies like this new Nana does! God bless them all!
