Embarrassing: Man driving with 7 friends crashes into tree while attempting selfie

I get it: people aren't afraid of dying. I mean, theoretically people seem afraid of dying, but in practice they continually do really, really, really stupid stuff that is proven to kill people. This is why we need to develop more shame-based punishments for people who knowingly endanger friends, family, strangers, and themselves by using their phones while driving. So, today let's ridicule 29-year-old Jordan Toner or Hampden, Maine, who seriously injured two people because it was apparently highly necessary to try to take a selfie of himself and seven passengers while driving in the town of Orient:
Maine State Police say Toner and his seven passengers were driving in Orient when the crash occurred. "Toner leaned over to take a 'selfie' picture with his friends, and ran off the road into a tree," police said in a statement. CBS Boston reports that two women sitting in the front passenger seat suffered the worst injuries. Police say neither were wearing a seat belt. One woman fractured her nose and the other was hospitalized for neck and possible back injuries. CBS Boston reports that two other men in the car sustained minor injuries. The passengers were all in their 20s and 30s. Toner is set to appear in court for, "Failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle due to being distracted."
I'm not saying that selfies are bad. It's fun to take photos of yourself with your friends! But I am 100% positive that Toner and his friends were at one point stationary in this vehicle--it's literally impossible for 8 people to get into a vehicle that is already moving. Why not take a photo before you start to drive? An equally intriguing idea could be to snap a selfie after you have safely arrived at your destination. I know what you're thinking: "What if the people get out of the car before I can get my cell phone out?" This is a danger, but a good safeguard against this sort of deep Instagram betrayal is to ask your passengers to wait. Also, this slightly less dangerous than TAKING A SELFIE WHILE DRIVING.    2 women seriously injured after driver attempts selfie, crashes into tree in Orient, Maine
