15-year-old Gadsden girl dies after being struck by vehicle

A 15-year-old Gadsden girl died Friday night after authorities say she was struck by an SUV. Etowah County Deputy Coroner Michael Head said the vehicle hit Justice Garrett about 8:05 p.m. on Tidmore Bend Road at Chadwick Street. Garrett, who was wearing dark clothing, apparently hit her head on the side of the vehicle as she crossed the road.

Etowah County Deputy Coroner Michael Head said the vehicle hit Justice Garrett about 8:05 p.m. on Tidmore Bend Road at Chadwick Street. Garrett, who was wearing dark clothing, apparently hit her head on the side of the vehicle as she crossed the road.

She died later at Gadsden Regional Medical Center at 10:04 p.m. Authorities do not suspect alcohol or foul play to be a factor.

"It was strictly an accident," he said. "They just didn't see her."

Police are still investigating.
