Name released of young girl killed in Trinity wreck

10-year-old Mahalie Freeman was killed in a two-vehicle wreck on Gordon Terry Parkway near Whitlow Road, according to the Morgan County coroner and Alabama state troopers. Witnesses said the minivan Freeman was riding in was crossing Gordon Terry Parkway when it was struck by a car. Officials said the driver of the car is also in the hospital, but their condition is unknown. Trinity Fire Chief Billy Pettey said several of the passengers in the van were not wearing seat belts, including Freeman.

Troopers identify child killed in Trinity crash

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn said the child died immediately of blunt force trauma after being ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the van, Thomas William King, 64, of Moulton, and the driver of the Nissan, Kayla M. Latham, 18, of Town Creek, were also injured, Summerville said. The other injured passengers, who included three juveniles, as well as Cora King, 32, and Teala Bates, 24, both of Moulton, were also transported to area hospitals for treatment, a trooper spokesman from the Decatur post said.
