Fairhope cyclist hit, injured by SUV; driver sought

About 7:15 a.m. the bicyclist was headed eastbound on the Gayfer Road Extension near Baldwin County 13 when he was struck from behind by a silver-colored SUV, possibly a Honda, said Fairhope police spokesman Sgt. Craig Sawyer. "He left the roadway, hit a road sign and the vehicle kept going," Sawyer said. "The cyclist was taken to Thomas Hospital. He was described as having internal injuries but we don't know what they're categorized as. We don't know how the hospital is listing his status. It's not life-threatening, is what I was told."
Police suspect that the driver might not have realized that he or she hit the cyclist.  Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Fairhope police at 251-928-2385.
