Opp school bus collision kills Dothan man

The driver of the Mercedes, a 40-year-old Dothan male, died of injuries sustained in the accident. According to Opp Police, public safety officials responded to an accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 West and Sub Station Road at 7:11 a.m. The Covington County coroner had not verified the victim’s name with the Dothan Eagle as of 5 p.m. Police said a school bus had just loaded students at the intersection and was located on the eastbound side of U.S. 84 when a 2004 Mercedes struck the rear of the vehicle. Seven children went to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Coroner IDs motorist killed when his car, school bus collide

OPP, Ala. (AP) - Authorities have identified a motorist killed when the car he was in collided with a school bus in south Alabama. WTVY-TV reports that none of the children aboard the Opp City Schools bus suffered any serious injuries. The Covington County coroner tells WSFA-TV that 40-year-old Jason Jeffcoat of Dothan died at the scene of the Wednesday morning crash in Opp. The Dothan station reports that some children were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. Al.com reports that the car erupted into flames following the impact.
