DRIVER BOOKED FOR MANSLAUGHTER AFTER FATAL PARAMOUNT CRASH

Authorities said a female passenger who was ejected from the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash was unknown.

Four people were in the vehicle, investigators said. The male driver was taken to a local hospital and was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

Deputies identified the driver as Giovanni Peña and family identified the passenger as his girlfriend of nearly 10 years, Yadira Alvarez

Peña was taken to the hospital for injuries. Alvarez died at the scene - just a block away from her grandma's home, according to family.

Neighbors said Alvarez' grandmother lived in the area and Alvarez attended University of California Irvine where she majored in Criminology.

Man Accused of Killing 23-Year-Old Girlfriend in Paramount Car Crash Pleads No Contest: DA

Giovanni Guzman entered a no contest plea to the felony on Thursday, during jury deliberations after a two-week trial, according to a DA’s news release.

He is expected to get 11 years in prison when he is sentenced next month, prosecutors said.
