Images from the scene appeared to show the wreckage of a small aircraft smoldering on the side of a roadway. Information about possible injuries or the type of aircraft involved in the crash were not immediately available.

The pilot -- identified by the National Gay Pilots Association as its executive director, Steven Moore -- died in the crash.

"Our Executive Director, and valiant crusader for the NGPA cause, Steven Moore, passed away this morning while flying his beloved Mooney in Colorado. Steven, we love you, we will miss you, and we will be forever indebted to you for all of the passion you put into your work with NGPA."

A small plane crashed near the Municipal Airport in Boulder County Monday morning, killing its pilot, Steven Moore. The accident occured around 7:30 a.m. on October 27, 2014. Emergency crews arrived at the scene by 8:00 a.m. Moore was the Executive Director of the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA).
