School officials identified him as Garrett Campen.

The crash was reported at 9:38 a.m.

The superintendent of Region 8 Schools, said grief counseling was being provided to teachers and students and that he was reaching out to surrounding school districts for additional grief counselors.

The superintendent said that parents were allowed to pick up any students who wanted to go home early.

The school's crisis intervention team was scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. to discuss how to proceed over the next several days.

A decision has not been made on whether to cancel after school and evening activities, he said.

State police said the vehicle went off the road and hit a fixed object. The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle.
