Law & Order: Teenager dies in Normandy wreck

One person died and three were seriously injured Sunday morning in a two-car wreck after one of the drivers ran a red light and struck another vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Jacob Leavitt, 17, died after the Ford Escape he was in ran the red light at Normandy and smashed into a Chevy Silverado driving through on Chaffee, investigators said. Another person in the car, a 20-year-old, is at UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries.

Middleburg High School student dies in red-light crash

Students at Middleburg High School wore blue Monday as they remember Jacob Leavitt. Leavitt died this weekend in a car crash on the west side of Jacksonville, after Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of the car he was in ran through a red light. His friends say his brother was the driver, who is in serious condition. Clay County school spokesman Gavin Rollins says the news hit the community hard.
