Bicyclist Struck, Killed on Julia Tuttle: Police

A bicyclist was struck by a car on the Julia Tuttle Causeway late Monday night and fell to his death in the Biscayne Bay, police say.

Two fisherman told rescue crews that they heard a loud splash, but were unable to pinpoint where they believed the man fell.

“We had a driver who was obviously traumatized, and a passenger who didn’t see anything because she was taking a nap,” he said.
 
 
The accident happened just after 11 p.m. Monday on the Julia Tuttle when a woman and her female passenger were driving and another car cut her off, causing her to swerve. The driver hit a bicyclist, knocking him into the Biscayne Bay below. Authorities found his body about 20 feet from the site of the accident in the water. Police have not identified the male victim.
