Fatal pedestrian crash in South Sarasota County
No charges have been filed. The road was closed for approximately two hours as investigators collected evidence and spoke to witnesses.

A 61-year-old Sarasota County man was hit and killed Friday night while cross US 41 near Sunset Beach Dr. Leonard D. Gebhardt was pronounced dead at the crash site just before 10 pm. Gebhardt ran out in front of a 2010 Dodge Caravan driven by Kenneth K. Kubic of Venice. The vehicle struck Gebhardt knocking him into the southbound lanes. Kubic, 75, was not injured in the collision. The initial crash report states the driver was not impaired. It is not yet known of Gebhardt was impaired pending the outcome of a toxicology report.Check back for more information as it becomes available.
