Vlado Lenoch, 64, and Bethany Root, 34, killed in crash of World War II-era P-51 Mustang fighter near Atchison, Kansas
The crash killed the pilot, 64-year-old Vlado Lenoch, of Burr Ridge, Illinois, and his passenger, 34-year-old Bethany Root. Root was the manager of the Amelia Earhart Memorial Airport in Atchison, which is about 45 miles northwest of Kansas City.
An Ohio native, Root was introduced to aviation through Dean Ayers, fixed base operator at the airport in Leavenworth, Grossman said. There, she got connected to McElwain Sprayers and, eventually, to Atchison.
Visitation for Vlado Lenoch of Burr Ridge will be held Sunday in the Chicago suburb of Willowbrook. His funeral will be held Monday at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Western Springs.
