Swain was wearing a seat belt and impairment is not suspected, State Police said.
According to Louisiana State Police, 21-year-old Alyssa M. Swain of Livingston was eastbound in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am on La. 42 before 6 p.m. when she attempted to pass an eastbound vehicle in a no-passing zone. As she swerved back to try to avoid an oncoming vehicle, she lost control in the area east of La. 16 and was struck by a westbound 1994 Chevrolet pickup driven by 40-year-old James Pankotai of Port Allen. Swain died of her injuries.
