Two people were killed in a six-vehicle crash on Route 17 in Washington Friday afternoon.
The crash happened near Fitch Road just after 4:45 p.m.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says a tractor trailer driven by 53-year-old Randall Weddle of Greenville, Tennessee, was heading west and the other four vehicles were heading east when the crash happened at about 5 p.m. Friday on Route 17 in Washington.

Paul Fowles, 74, of Owls Head was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll. Fowles was driving east in a 2009 Chevrolet Colorado and was the first vehicle in line struck by a westbound 1998 Freightliner loaded with lumber that was driven by Randall Weddle, 53, of Greenville, Tennessee.

Christina Torres-York, 45, died from blunt force trauma to the chest as a result of the accident that occurred when a flatbed carrying lumber overturned Friday, according to the Maine medical examiner’s office. Friday’s crash also claimed the life of Paul Fowles, 74, of Owls Head.

According to the affidavit in the case the vehicles engine monitor showed that he was traveling 73 in a 55-mile per hour zone when the crash occurred.
