State Police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian from Beverly along Route 114 in Danvers Monday night, officials said.

Steven Gaulin, 45, was struck while trying to cross the street near the I-95 exit ramps at about 7:45 p.m. Monday, said a Danvers police spokesman. Gaulin was staying at the Motel 6 near the crosswalk.

He was rushed to Beverly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, an 18-year-old Peabody woman, was traveling east in her 2005 Ford Taurus when the crash occurred.

Her name is being withheld during the investigation; no charges have been brought against her, police said.

“There are two lanes of traffic on each side, and it’s very heavily trafficked road,” police said. “Crossing the highway is not something we recommend at all.”

A portion of Route 114 and the exit ramp from I-95 was closed Monday night to accommodate the State Police reconstruction team, said Danvers Police Captain Patrick Ambrose.
