One dead, 7 hurt, in crash on I-95 in Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Mass. (WPRI) – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on I-95 in Mansfield Sunday morning. The Massachusetts State Police said that the crash happened at about 3:20 a.m. on 95 North, just north of Exit 5. Four vehicles were involved. The pileup started when a 2008 BMW driven by a 27 year-old Revere man lost control and hit a Ford Explorer. The Explorer rolled over into the median. The BMW stopped in the travel lane and was struck by a 2008 Lexus being driven by a 25 year-old Dorchester man, and the Lexus was then struck by a 2008 Audi driven by a 32 year-old Revere man. One person from each of the cars was taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. There were five people in the Explorer; a 65 year-old woman who was a passenger in it was pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. The other four people in the Explorer were also injured. Troopers had to close the right two lanes of the highway for 6 1/2 hours for investigation and cleanup. No charges have been filed at this point, but the investigation is ongoing.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 27-year-old from Revere driving a BMW lost control of his vehicle and hit a Ford Explorer. The collision caused the Explorer to roll over into the median while the BMW became disabled in the travel lane and was struck by a Lexus driven by a 25-year-old from Dorchester which was hit by an Audi S5 operated by a 32-year-old male from Revere.
