A pickup truck driver attempting to pass on a southeastern Minnesota highway before dawn Tuesday hit an oncoming compact car head-on, killing the other motorist, authorities said.

The State Patrol report said a Tim Tlougan, 19, of Hayfield, was northbound on Highway 56 when he tried to pass another vehicle and hit the southbound car driven by Fiksen head-on shortly after 5:30 a.m.
