Boy, 10, killed, others injured in wreck between Amish carriage, SUV

A 10-year-old boy has reportedly been killed and two other children were injured in a crash after a sports utility vehicle hit an Amish horse-drawn carriage in northwest Missouri.

Traffic investigators think a driver heading east may have been blinded by the sun when she hit and killed a 10-year-old boy driving a horse-drawn buggy near a Mennonite village in Livingston County.

Authorities say the driver of the SUV was blinded by the sun and hit the carriage from behind, but the investigation is still ongoing.

 "It was one of the most God awful horrific things that should have never happened to anyone," said Penny Anderson who was driving the SUV that hit the buggy.

Around 8 a.m., a horse and buggy was traveling on Highway B near Livingston County Road 277 when it was struck from behind by an SUV. The buggy was carrying three children to school at the time. Three children were ejected from the buggy. One was pronounced dead at the scene, and another was flown to Children's Mercy hospital in Kansas City. A third child was also injured. tHe driver of the buggy was not injured.
