UPDATE: Police identify Lincoln crash victim

"I just want people to know she was a good person," Tatum said. "All around, everybody has their opinions but she's a good person. She's a good mother, a good friend, you know, she was like a sister to me."
Police have released the name of the victim in Sunday night's fatal crash in north Lincoln. Chasity Tatum was with 21–year–old Shanna Rurup hours before she died in the single vehicle crash. "I texted her when I heard," Tatum said. "I called her, I called her probably 15 times. It was just...I didn't believe it." Rescue crews were called to the 27th St. bridge near Cornhusker around 5 p.m. Two people were inside the car. One of them, Rurup, who died at the scene. Officials say the driver, 20–year–old Cameron Beattie, lost control and hit the guard rail. They say the car rolled once and landed on the passenger side. "Cameron was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries," Officer Katie Flood said. Family and friends tell us Rurup attended school in David City then graduated from Southwest in Lincoln in 2012. They say she loved spending time with friends and was very social but most of all, loved being a mother to her 2–year–old son Mason. "I just want people to know she was a good person," Tatum said. "All around, everybody has their opinions but she's a good person. She's a good mother, a good friend, you know, she was like a sister to me." Police say Rurup was not wearing her seatbelt. No citations have been issued at this point but police continue to investigate the cause of the accident. Funeral services are pending with Kracl Funeral Home in David City.
