Joseph McDonough struck a tree root when he drove up an embankment to avoid a drainage pipe, lost his balance and was thrown about 10 feet, Deputy Chief Anthony Manna said.

A fundraising effort is underway to help the family of Joseph McDonough, a 26-year-old Parsippany man who died last week after being thrown from an all-terrain vehicle.

McDonough was first taken to a nearby residence where they called the police before being transported to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center where he was eventually pronounced dead.
