Car smashes into tree, stoplight on Central near UNM closing all lanes
Central Avenue was shut down in both directions Sunday afternoon after a speeding car hit a curb near the Frontier Restaurant, then hit a traffic light and finally a tree in the median.
The crash occurred about 2:45 p.m. at Central and Cornell, said Albuquerque police spokesman Simon Drobik . He said the 20-year-old driver was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital alive but with extensive injuries. His identity was not released, but Drobik said he was admitted in stable condition.
