John Wayne King, 53, dies of his injuries after being struck by two hit-and-run drivers at the intersection of East Long Avenue and Broad Street in Gastonia, North Carolina

A Gastonia man has died nearly a week after investigators say he was hit by two vehicles while crossing the street. Investigators say both drivers left the scene. According to investigators with the Gastonia Police Department, 53-year-old John Wayne King died at Carolinas Medical Center from his injuries. King was involved in a hit and run at East Long Avenue and Broad Street last Friday. According to a witness, King was walking in the crosswalk across the intersection when he was struck by a white sports utility vehicle followed by another sedan. Both drivers left the scene of the collision. Investigators say they have gotten a number of tips from the community on possible suspects and vehicles.
