Man charged with DWI after killing Good Samaritan in crash

Anderson was killed in the collision, Vaughn was injured. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Troopers charged Hunt with DWI, no insurance and driving while license revoked.

A Burke County man was killed, and a woman was injured, after the woman became stranded in front of his house late Wednesday night.

According to investigators, Lorrine Vaughn's vehicle ran out of gas around 10 pm along Highway 18, just south of Morganton, in front of 49-year-old David Anderson's home.

Anderson took gas out of his own vehicle and took it out to her car.

Anderson was outside helping the woman when another vehicle came around the corner and hit them.

The driver, 43-year-old Conan Hunt, was reportedly driving drunk. Hunt's vehicle went off the roadway and wound up in a field.

"I heard the impact," said neighbor Beverly Gibson. "It shook my trailer."

Gibson said when she went to the road to see what had happened, she saw Vaughn walking in a daze looking for Anderson.

"She was running up the road saying I can't find him, I can't find him."

Anderson's body was spotted near the SUV.

Anderson was killed in the collision, Vaughn was injured. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

Troopers charged Hunt with DWI, no insurance and driving while license revoked.

A court date was sent for September to give time for toxicology tests to be completed.
