The Asheville Police Department said the single-vehicle crash happened just after 5:15 a.m. on Saturday on Interstate 240 East at the Amboy Road exit. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2011 Dodge Ram truck left the roadway, striking the guardrail, then a light pole, before coming to rest at the bottom of the exit ramp.

Officials learned that a truck, driven by Bernal, ran off the road, hit a guardrail and then a light pole before stopping at the bottom of the exit ramp. The passenger, 30-year-old Andres Villeda-Arroyo, was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
