Jared W. Akin, 26, killed, Jason C. Hamilton, 25, critically injured, transported to hospital, after a pickup and car collide on State Route 728 near Lucasville.

One man is dead and a second was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash near Lucasville.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Jared W. Akin, 26, of Portsmouth, was driving a 1990 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck eastbound on state Route 728 when he drove left of center, striking a 2002 Pontiac Aztek.

Akin transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center where he later died, according to troopers.

The driver of the Pontiac, 25-year-old Jason C. Hamilton, was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center and then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia where he remains in critical condition.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
