Coquille woman killed in Highway 38 collision

No citations have been issued, but investigators say they will forward their findings to the Douglas County District Attorney's Office for review.
A head-on collision in Douglas County at approximately 3:45 p.m. Friday occurred when a Honda CR-V that was traveling east on Highway 38 crossed the center line into westbound traffic near Elkton and crashed into a 2004 Toyota Camry. Virginia I. Whalen-Jennings, 59, the front passenger seat of the Camry, was pronounced deceased at the crash site. The driver, Kathleen D. Handcock, 57, and another passenger were transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda, Heather R. Friedrich, 44, was taken to Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport with non-life threatening injuries. It is not known what caused the crash at this point.
