Police arrested the driver in a fatal crash that killed a passenger in Southwest Portland Friday morning.

A passenger was killed and a driver had to be cut out after a vehicle hit a tree early Friday morning on Southwest Barbur Boulevard.

Rescue crews were dispatched about 3 a.m. to Barbur and Miles Street after reports of a crash. They found 28-year-old Dmitriy Maksimov dead in the car.
The driver, 29-year-old Audy Molina-Colindres, was trapped inside.

Portland Fire & Rescue crews were able to remove Molina-Colindres, who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later taken into police custody on manslaughter, reckless driving and DUII charges.

Investigators believe the vehicle was heading south on Southwest Barbur Boulevard when Molina-Colindres lost control, crossed the median into northbound lanes and smashed into the tree, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Barbur Boulevard was temporarily shut down between Terwilliger Boulevard and Capitol Highway while the crash was being investigated. Southbound lanes were reopened about 6:45 a.m. and northbound lanes were reopened about 8:30 a.m.
