State police said the vehicle that previously hit the bear was not at the scene.

Bret Cartwright, 25, and his 22-year-old wife were injured in a rollover crash after their car struck a dead bear on I-84 in Eastern Oregon. The couple were driving eastward with their 1-year-old daughter and family dog when the crash occurred at 11 p.m. Saturday. The bear was lying in a traffic lane next to plastic vehicle parts. Cartwright hit the bear and rolled into the center median after he had changed lanes to avoid hitting the vehicle parts. Cartwright and his wife suffered minor injuries.
