A woman already scheduled to appear in court on DUI charges related to a 2013 crash was arrested Wednesday in Susquehanna Township for driving under the influence after a head-on collision. Susquehanna Township police confirmed that 34-year-old Janine Rawls, of the 500 block of North 36th Street, was taken into custody at about 10 a.m. at the scene of the collision on Herr Street at Canby Street. Rawls was having trouble walking and smelled strongly of alcohol, when officers arrived at the scene, according to a news release. She became uncooperative with police shortly thereafter and refused to answer questions, the release states. Neither Rawls, who was found to have been driving a Volkswagen Passat, nor the other driver of a Ford F-350 van were injured, but both vehicles had to be towed from the scene where they were blocking traffic at the intersection, police said. An investigation determined that Rawls' Passat was east on Herr when it suddenly passed into the westbound lanes and struck the van head-on, according to police. Rawls refused to submit to a blood test to confirm the presence of alcohol in her system. Police nonetheless intend to charge her via summons with the highest rate of driving under the influence as well as failing to drive on the right side of the road, the release states. According to court records, Rawls is scheduled to appear before Judge Deborah Essis Curcillo in the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas' DUI court on April 17 relating to a previous case in which she faces DUI and other charges. Those charges stem from a 2013 collision Rawls was involved in in which she fled the scene but was quickly found by police nearby, apparently intoxicated, the release states.
