Teen faces charges in early morning Cranston crash

Winquist said the teens were traveling “well in excess of the speed limit” when they approached a “pretty significant curve” in the roadway, he said. Speed was likely the cause of the crash, he said. There was no indication that Carpenter, or the other teenagers, had been drinking, he said.

Fortin and two other passengers, a 16-year-old Johnston boy and 18-year-old Hannah Pine, of Johnston, suffered minor injuries. Eighteen-year-old Danielle Fortin, of Johnston, and a 17-year-old Cranston girl were thrown from the vehicle. Police say the 17-year-old girl suffered broken bones and a brain bleed. Police say the vehicle was going over the speed limit when it crashed around 12:30 Saturday morning on Plainfield Pike. The driver, 18-year-old Blake Carpenter, of Johnston, faces charges including driving to endanger resulting in personal injury and other offenses.
