But according to passengers in the truck and a witness who was driving behind the SUV, the driver of that vehicle began to swerve into the other lane of traffic and went directly into the path of the truck without braking or attempting to correct.
A deadly car accident Saturday morning in Logan Canyon took the life of one young man, critically injured another and sent two more to the hospital. Utah Highway Patrol troopers say Bruce Wilson, 57, was driving a Ford pickup pulling a boat down Logan Canyon, with two young men with him. Those passengers have been identified as Morgan Wright, 14, and Ethan Fowers, 12. Lieutenant Lee Perry from UHP says he believes the three were coming home to Hooper after an outing on Bear Lake. "The gold colored truck going southbound came around a turn near Franklin Pass when they spotted a northbound maroon SUV drifting into their lane," Lt. Lee Perry said, "The driver of the gold pickup pulled as far as he could up to the rail." But according to passengers in the truck and a witness who was driving behind the SUV, the driver of that vehicle began to swerve into the other lane of traffic and went directly into the path of the truck without braking or attempting to correct. "That's why it appears maybe it could be something like fatigue or taking eyes off the road," Lt. Perry said they are also looking into the possibility of some sort of medical condition playing a role in what led to the crash. Sadly, the high speed accident, killed the driver of the SUV on impact, now identified as Ryker Dattage from Hyde Park. "This is a bad crash," Lt. Perry said, "Any head on crash is a bad crash, but when you have one vehicle that doesn't brake or stop it's going to be more horrific." Troopers say everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, but in this accident, "even seatbelts couldn't save a life". The occupants of the truck had to be extricated, since the collision caused the boat they were towing to launch forward off the cab, smashing the top of the truck. Bruce Wilson, 57, was airlifted to Ogden Regional in critical condition. His passengers were both taken by ambulance to Logan Regional and were said to be in good condition Saturday evening.
