Chesapeake police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run along George Washington Highway near the intersection of Yadkin Road where officers discovered a person laying in the roadway, early Thursday morning.

A police officer who was patrolling the street near Yadkin Road found the man and called paramedics, a police news release says. He appeared to have injuries from being hit by a vehicle.

Corey Mooring was discovered laying in the road at around 3:45 a.m. along George Washington Highway near the intersection of Yadkin Road. He reportedly had a prosthetic arm and leg. Police believe he was struck by a 2000-2003 dark blue or black Chevy Cavalier sedan, most likely with damage to the passenger’s side headlight and windshield.
