Newport News: Officer injured in motorcycle crash on Warwick Boulevard.

A Newport News police officer was rushed to the hospital Thursday morning after being involved in a motorcycle accident, a spokeswoman said.

The crash occurred at about 7:25 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Warwick Boulevard near Export Circle, a Newport News Police Department spokeswoman said.

A white Kia Sedona van was traveling southbound on Warwick Boulevard when the driver made a left turn onto Export Circle, McPherson said. The officer who was traveling northbound on Warwick Boulevard collided with the rear passenger side of the van.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said. The van's driver was examined by paramedics at the scene, but police said they did not know if driver was taken to the hospital.

The Newport News Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash and will determine if any charges will be filed, police said.
