Friday Harbor man killed in Mount Baker Highway wreck

The wreck occurred in the area of Milepost 49, where the steep switchbacks begin just below the Mount Baker Ski Area.

Michael A. Wayner of Friday Harbor was killed early Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle while allegedly passing illegally on a curve. He was headed uphill when he attempted to pass on a double yellow line, and the motorcycle sailed over a cliff along the Mount Baker Highway near Milepost 49, and Wayner was dead at the scene. According to the Washington State Patrol report, he was wearing a helmet but did not have a motorcycle endorsement for his driver’s license.
