One person, later identified as Matthew Scott 39, of Tualatin, died in a crash in snow on Interstate 5 near Ridgefield, Wash. Thursday, state police said.

Snowfall was widespread in Clark County, causing numerous crashes that halted traffic on I-5 north of Vancouver, as well as along State Route 503 through Battle Ground.

County crews are out in force, spraying deicer and trying to clear snow with plows.

Vancouver Public Works has 17 vehicles outfitted with combination plows and deicers to handle both snow and icy conditions.

Officials warned that neighborhood side streets do not get plowed due to higher demands for arterial roads.

Residents are encouraged to get prepared with traction devices, snow shovels and emergency kits.
