A small plane crash-landed on a remote Florida Gulf Coast beach, killing a Georgia man and critically injuring his 9-year-old daughter as they walked along the shore.

The 1972 Piper Cherokee lost a wheel, damaged a wing and smashed its propeller shortly after making a distress call about 2:45 p.m. Sunday to Venice Municipal Airport. Caspersen Beach is just south of the airport, at the southern tip of the island of Venice.

The fireworks in Miami had just concluded when a white, 32-foot (9.6-meter) boat carrying five young adults crashed violently with another vessel in the night.

The boat's operator was thrown overboard. Another passenger was tossed into the water, and two others left critically injured and unconscious.

With no one at the helm, the boat circled in the dark, crashing into a third vessel before a commercial salvage crew was able to pull up alongside it, jump aboard and bring it to a stop.

A Sarasota woman who was killed over the weekend when a speeding car crashed into her home, had complained to the city about the intersection near her home before.

The tragic chain of events started at around 3 a.m. Saturday when Sarasota Police got a 911 call. They say 24-year-old Jakeilah Weeks had broken into the home of her ex-boyfriend, Donta Carswell, Jr., beat him up and stole money from the home.

Carswell’s mother was the person who called 911. In recordings of the 911 call, you can hear Carswell and Weeks screaming in the background.

A Florida woman is facing DUI and drug possession charges after she was involved in a crash just two days after she was released from a detox facility, authorities said.

Briana Mary Donaghy, 19, was arrested early Sunday on one count of DUI, five counts of DUI property damage/personal injury and one count of marijuana possession, according to a Florida Highway Patrol arrest report.

Donaghy rear-ended a Dodge Charger while driving her Mercedes, sending both cars into some shrubbery on the shoulder of a road in Marco Island, the report said.

Two children have serious injuries after crashing their all-terrain vehicle in southwest Florida. According to Florida Highway Patrol, 9-year-old Angela Wright was driving the ATV when it crashed Sunday afternoon in Lehigh Acres. Troopers say the ATV flipped over as it approached a telephone pole in a grassy area. According to a crash report, both the girl and her 16-year-old passenger Kyle Pilgrim were thrown off the ATV in the crash. Troopers say the teenager struck the telephone pole after being ejected, and the ATV struck the 9-year-old after she was thrown off.

Two Tallahassee men were killed Saturday night in a helicopter crash in Wakulla County, but a woman survived the crash. The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office said Curtis Robert Clifford, 53 and Terry Bryan Ooten, 49, were found dead at the scene of the crash. Sheri Noelle Devore, 45, also of Tallahassee, was airlifted to an area hospital. There was no word on his condition. Authorities say the crash occurred just after 8 p.m. in a marshy area as the helicopter was taking of from the Wakulla County Airport when the aircraft hit either tree limbs or a power line.

Search crews continued for the second day looking for a plane that crashed off of the St. Lucie Inlet.

The plane was headed from Marathon to Vero Beach Friday evening.

Authorities say the pilot, Andrei Postelnicu, of the United Kingdom, was the only person in the Piper PA-28 plane.

Authorities say Postelnicu leased the plane from a Treasure Coast company, Pilot's Paradise, and was returning to Vero Beach.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder says Postelnicu was last heard on the radio asking for some kind of instructions.

A lawyer from Kansas is dead after the water scooter he was operating collided with a motorboat in southwest Florida.

The crash happened Sunday afternoon in Charlotte County.

A Charlotte County Fire and EMS spokeswoman told the stated that 54-year-old Lee Hollis of Leawood, Kan., died Monday. Doctors amputated one of his legs on Sunday afternoon.

Local police agencies and the Florida Highway Patrol were kept busy over the holiday weekend as they investigated a slew of fatal accidents. Florida Highway Patrol said four people died in three separate accidents in Volusia County Saturday, while two more died in an accident on Interstate 4 Saturday morning. The accidents varied from a wrong way driver that killed two people early Saturday morning on Interstate 4 at Princeton Avenue to a fatal RV accident that killed a driver Saturday afternoon on Interstate 95.
