Dothan woman succumbs to injuries after struck by car

Members of the Dothan Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate the scene and determined that the victim was struck while walking in the roadway.

Dothan police say an elderly woman is dead after being hit by a motor vehicle.

According to a press release officers arrived at the 3200 block of Fortner Street where they found an unresponsive woman lying on the side of the road. The driver of the vehicle was also there and appeared to be unharmed.

The victim, identified as 71-year-old Darlene Dean, was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries from the collision.

Members of the Dothan Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate the scene and determined that the victim was struck while walking in the roadway. There were no indications of impairment in the driver of the vehicle involved.

Investigators learned Dean suffered from a mental condition and has been reported missing moments before the accident.

I wish that people would stop saying that she died later at a hospital. That comment isn't true. I am her granddaughter and it was my husband who had to go identify her body that night on the roadway. She was dead at the scene and it brings lots of confussion for those in her family who weren't here to see or read that she died later. we know she didn't suffer and I want the story to be told correctly. please and thank you.
