Phoenix Fire says funeral plans are pending and that support for his family is being provided by the department as well as by United Phoenix Firefighters, Local 493.

Hiatt, who lived in Gilbert, is the son of a retired Phoenix fire engineer. 

Funeral for Phoenix firefighter killed in crash to be public

Phoenix Fire spokeswoman Michelle Miller said Wednesday a service for 43-year-old Matt Hiatt will take place Tuesday at Christ's Church of the Valley. It will be open to the public.
At approximately 10 AM Friday Phoenix firefighter Matt Hiatt was driving his truck in Chandler, Arizona on the Santan Freeway when his vehicle slammed into a concrete foundation of the Dobson Road overpass and burst into flames. Hiatt did not have a chance to exit his vehicle and was found dead at the site of the accident. Investigators are still working the scene, and it is not yet known why Hiatt crashed his vehicle. This is a developing story and we will include more details as they become available.
