Marana woman killed, young son injured in car crash.
A Marana woman was killed and her young son was injured in a crash last Friday near Red Rock.
Susana Lopez, 33, of Marana was killed her 5-year-old son was injured, according to information from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office released late yesterday. The boy, who was in a child-safety seat, suffered a cut on his head.
A little after 9 a.m. Lopez was driving a 2001 Kia SUV southbound around a curve on South Owl Head Ranch Road near East Grand Valley Drive in the unincorporated area of Red Rock when she sideswiped a truck in the oncoming lane, said Sgt. Pat Ramirez, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
The 53-year-old driver of the 1995 Dodge flatbed truck was uninjured and called for help.
Mother and son were taken by helicopter to a Tucson hospital, where Lopez died.
“There was no indication of drug or alcohol impairment for either driver,” Ramirez said.
