Scottsdale police on Monday identified the two people killed following a single-car accident this weekend on Scottsdale Road.

A driver is dead and three passengers were taken to the hospital after the SUV they were in struck a tree in Scottsdale.

The accident happened around noon Sunday on Scottsdale Road just north of McCormick Parkway.

The SUV was traveling northbound when the driver lost control, entered the median and slammed into a tree on the east side of Scottsdale Road just north of McCormick Parkway, said Scottsdale police Officer David Pubins.

The driver, later identified as Valerie McKay, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene.
One passenger, Londo Burns, 63, died at hospital later.

Northbound Scottsdale Road between McCormick and Royal Palm was closed during the investigation.

Pubins said it appears that speed likely is a factor and alcohol can't be ruled out as a contributing factor at this stage of the investigation.
