Tampa boy, 10, killed in I-75 rollover crash, troopers say

A 10-year-old Tampa boy was killed in a Sunday crash in Lee County that also seriously injured his father and a woman, troopers said.

Roberto Lopez Jr. 10, of Tampa, died from injuries sustained on Sunday afternoon in Lee County, Florida. During the accident, a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer lost control and overturned on I-75 near the Alico Road exit near mile marker 127. Apparently, the vehicle's tire's tread separated, causing the driver, 55-year-old Roberto Lopez, to lose control. The vehicle overturned several times, ejecting the 10-year-old. The boy was transported to Lee Memorial, where he died. Floriday Highway Patrol says he was not wearing a seatbelt or child restraint. Another passenger, Madelin Nunez of Tampa, and the driver were also taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where they were listed in serious condition.
